Fellowship of the Ring In Concert
News — By Jim Lochner on August 20, 2009 at 8:00 amAs I reported a couple of months ago, I will be covering the performance of Howard Shore’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING for Fim Score Monthly Online when it is performed live to film on October 9 and 10 at Radio City Music Hall.
A special weekend (October 9-11) is being planned surrounding the concerts. Scheduled events include:
- The official release of Doug Adams’ new book The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films
- Pre-concert talks and post-concert signing sessions with Howard Shore and Doug Adams
- Discussion with Tolkien linguist David Salo, who translated all the choral lyrics for THE LORD OF THE RINGS scores
- Illustrator/artist Colleen Doran talks about her work
- And more!
UPDATE 8/20/09: I just found out this afternoon that literary manuscripts from Marquette University’s renowned J.R. R. Tolkien Collection will also be on display to coincide with the concert. The exhibit, “The Beginnings of a Masterpiece: Original Manuscripts from The Fellowship of the Ring,” will be held at Fordham’s Gerald M. Quinn Library at Lincoln Center from October 5 through November 19. The Quinn Library is located on the first floor of the Lowenstein Building at 113 West 60th Street. Please visit the Fordham Libraries website at www.library.fordham.edu after September 15th to learn more about viewing the exhibit.
For more information on the concert and to order tickets, visit the LORD OF THE RINGS Concert website or click on the banner below. (I do not receive any remuneration for clicking on the banners.)
I am in the process of setting up interviews for the FSMO coverage. I already have a list of musicians and technical artists that I hope to interview as well as numerous questions to ask them. Depending on timing, hopefully I can get a portion of these set up in time for publication in the September issue of FSMO mid-month.
I know there are a lot of LOTR fans out there, so I turn to you.
- Who would you like to see interviewed?
- What questions would you like like answered?
Even if you’re not an FSMO reader (and you should be!), here’s your chance to be a part of the process. We writers often work in a vacuum and I’d like to tailor the coverage so that it goes beyond my own wishes and speaks to as many fans of the film and the score as possible. I’ll take note of the new ideas and check off any that I already have on my list. Leave your suggestions in the comments section. If you’d like a little privacy, feel free to submit them through the Contact Page.
Thanks in advance for your participation.
